Temp Help Employment Up 3,000 In Q2 ...

The staffing industry employed nearly three million workers in the second quarter of 2007, about 3,000 more than in the second quarter of 2006, setting a new record high in second quarter employment, according to the American Staffing Association's quarterly survey.

On a quarter-over-quarter basis, staffing employment performed stronger, with 4.8% more workers employed in the second quarter of this year than in the first.

This year's second quarter sales growth reverses a year-long trend of market deceleration, but remains far from the double-digit growth rates of three years ago and was lower than the quarter's 3.4% growth in U.S. Gross Domestic Product as estimated by the Bureau of Economic Analysis, according to ASA.

StaffingForce will be extremely active in the Temp Help segment of the Staffing Industry.

Job Openings Rate Rises ...

The job openings rate was 3.0% in June, up from 2.9% in the previous four months and 2.9% a year ago, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Actual job openings rose to 4.3 million in June from 4.1 million in May and 4.0 million in June 2006.

The job openings rates were highest in professional and business services (4.3%) and accommodations and food services (4.0%).

The hires rate was 3.4% in June, down from 3.6% in May and 3.7% in June 2006, according to the BLS. There were almost 4.8 million hires in June, compared to almost 5.0 million in May and June 2006.

Separations fell to 4.5 million in June, down approximately 31,000 from May. The separations rate was 3.3% in both June and May, down from 3.4% in June 2006.

Help The Laid Off Workers From The Mortgage Industry ...

Industrywide, people working in mortgage-related jobs fell to 458,800 in June, down from a peak of 507,000 in October, according to MortgageDaily.com.

The laid off works from the mortgage industry would be yet another demographic group that would make ideal StaffingForce Associates.

Worker Confidence Improves ...

Worker confidence regained lost ground in July following a drop in June, according to a survey by Hudson, part of the Hudson Highland Group Inc. (NASD: HHGP). The Hudson employment index rose to 105.8 in July from 101.2 in June. The index is also up year-over-year from 101.9 in July 2006.

The percentage of workers saying their finances are improving rose to 43% in July from 39% in June. And the number of workers worried about job security fell to 17% in July from 19% in the prior month. Workers expecting layoffs dropped to 14% from 15%.

"Although workers are facing some financial burden these days with a weak housing market and elevated gas prices, they remain encouraged by the job market's stability," said Robert Morgan, president of Talent Solutions, Hudson. "In many respects June was an anomaly in 2007, as July's index and many of the contributing factors have returned to the levels seen leading up to last month."
